Okay, so I admit Im not as "on top of it" in the housecleaning department as I should be... but I will stand firm on this.... a house that is a "nothing-out-of-place" house is not as welcoming as a house that has a few things out of place... and occasional dusty surfaces...
Have you ever noticed that the magazines that feature ways to decorate or set up rooms are so inviting? They are pretty, splashes of color here and there, layout is perfect, art on the wall all coordinates with everything else in the room.... makes you want to copy it in your own living room!
Well, I tried that one time... took the tips and added some fun throw pillows of bright colors, arranged the furniture to be more "welcoming" and staged the centerpiece on the coffee table just so, etc.
It DID look neat! It looked awesome in fact, that is, until we all sat in it..
Those magazine pictures of the prefect living room, dining room, bedroom, don't show PEOPLE in them!
At our house, we don't allow the kids and ourselves to wear shoes in the house... we DO allow feet on the coffee table, laying on the couch and so on.... this "unfluffs" your pillows and rearranges your center décor on the coffee table and so on. Get the picture?
So I've come to the conclusion that you can't have both! A perfectly arranged picture-perfect room AND comfortable guests and family cannot co-exist.
So if you drop in for a cup of coffee, don't be alarmed if the throw pillows are all on one side of the couch instead of equally arranged on both ends.... one of my children probably propped themselves up better to read a book...
Or don't gasp at the fact my throw blankets aren't perfectly arranged on the arm of the loveseat... it was probably being used before you came in.
Don't worry over the fact that the art on my walls doesn't match PERFECTLY to all my furniture.... some of the furniture was given to me.
I know I will never be known for an incredible housecleaner or a spotless home... but that's ok with me.... my house is LIVED in and friends are welcome to visit any time! So far, it hasn't turned people away! Go figure!
Thanks for reading this Rambling!
Quick disclaimer: my house isn't DIRTY..... that's a whole different topic in itself! Its just unorganized at times and occasionally dusty, or has a load of folded laundry sitting in the rocking chair... etc :)
