We enjoy the opportunity to sleep in today... no tours booked just a free day to explore wherever we want. We head towards to Roman Forum and are excited to see that the main street is blocked off so there is no traffic today... there are street performers, musicians all over.. Its a sunny, peaceful day although there seem to be even more people out and about than on previous days. We enjoy looking a little closer at some of the monuments and structures we were only able to see far away before. Here is one of them:
This is where the markets were held. Loved this area. From here we strolled towards Piazza Navona... We also returned to Campo De Fiori and discovered a full fledged market! We got a picture of the oldest floral market... its been there in this exact spot since 1367! Beautiful and unique arrangements... you could buy a bouquet of chilli peppers if you wanted... love this. The whol Square was filled with locals shopping for pastas, flowers, coffee accessories.. and so much more.. we enjoyed just looking through everything.
After this we ate at a side street between Camp Di Fiori and a Palace that Michelangelo designed (now the French embassy). Was fun to sit on this very small side street, watching shoppers to and from the market and also near enough the Embassy to hear the fountains out front and see its beauty from where we sat. This is also where I had the BEST tiramisu of the trip! Got to meet the owners and have a picture with them.... no English but we still were able to communicate with my few Italian words and lots of gestures and laughs. Loved this moment!
One more thing about this Trattoria.... we wanted to sit outside and they thought we were crazy (too cold! said a waiter!) It was 68 degrees and I was wearing flip flops... they thought I was a little loopy :) But funnily enough after we sat down, others walking by sat outside to eat as well... they were from London. Guess we are all used to colder weather.
Overall loved this lazy relaxed day!
