There are some things that parents can all relate too, that are difficult, funny, hard etc.
This poses the question: If they are ALL common occurrences, why wasn't there a warning label?
For example, No one told me that:
1. The phrase "Slept like a baby" really means. "sleeps through anything and everything, anywhere, BUT only for a few short hours at a time." This was misleading information
2. Even though baby clothes are super tiny, it WILL add a load of laundry per day. Why? Well, because of having to change baby multiple times due to spit ups and messes.
3.One of the most painful experience of your life will be stepping on a Lego piece.... barefoot.
4. All the ideas you have about how to parent perfectly, will disappear when the child is born.
5. From pregnancy on, you will be offered advice and opinions on everything from correcting your child, to feeding your child, whether you want it or not. Its like being pregnant or having a baby/toddler gives others the license to "share" with you.
6. No matter how strict you are, the kids will more than once, find their way into your bed. (bad dreams, sick etc.)
7. Kids WILL at some point write/color on walls.
8. Your kids will be perfect, quiet angels until you answer the phone.
9. Bathroom time and shower time is no longer just yours, its to be shared.
10. When kids are learning to talk, they will say anything, anywhere without censorship. Usually at a public place like a store, and usually loud enough for the subject of their comment to HEAR what they say and its usually UNCOMPLIMENTARY. This is fact.
11. When your sweet child "helps" you with dinner, be prepared to clean up after what will seem like a tornado.
12. When your sweet child "helps" you with the dishes, be prepared for a waterfall down the front of the sink/counters. They literally don't see it happening, they are so focused on the water rinsing the dish.
13. Teething is painful for both child and parent.
No one told me: Even though this list of things could go on for pages and pages, NONE of it matters in the big picture because you love this little being more that you have ever loved before.
No one warned me about this all consuming, makeyourhearthurt love for your child that turns you into a protective mother bear, a more-patient-that-you-thought-possible person and it makes it all, every single bit of it, worth it!
And you know what? I don't think if they HAD "warned" me about this part that I could have even believed or comprehended what they meant!
Its like when people tell you how fast time flies when you have little kids and in the first months, you think "they are crazy! This feels like sleep-deprived, slow motion!" Then all of the sudden you get it, your sweet baby is walking, then talking, then going to school and you want to weep with how fast its gone... only then do you start to "get it".
All in all, maybe it's good we aren't warned about every little thing that is hard about parenting, otherwise we could've missed out on the huge list of AMAZING things we enjoy as parents.
