this is me, the day their cd arrived
I write this fresh from taking my kids to their first ever concert.
We went to see Home Free.
"Who's Home Free?"
If this is the question on your mind, you join a few others who wondered why I would "embarrass myself" over getting excited at "spotting" some of the band members out and about before the concert.
"Why would you get giddy over people who still are virtually unknown?" someone asked after I posted how excited I was to see Austin and holler at him out my car window.
If you wonder why on earth, I would drive over 1 1/2 hours to see them on a Tuesday night when the kids and I wouldn't get home until after midnight, let me enlighten you as to why Home Free is band to get giddy about!
Home Free is a vocal band.
Every sound you hear is made with a voice and a mic.
That's it.
Have you ever gone to a concert and thought "Man! They must REALLY edit their cd's or it must have taken 24 takes per track, because they do NOT sound that good live!"? Me too.
Here's the thing.
When we listened to this talented group of guys, the harmonies were still tight, the percussion was phenom and the songs were solid.
Were there a few pitchy moments? Yes. Less than 5.
Let me tell you something, when a band is up there with just a mic and their voice, they are exposed.
When you have a band of instruments accompanying you, a wavering moment in your voice or slight pitch issue is easily missed because there is so much else to fill your ears.
When you are a vocal band however, there is no cover, its just your sound.
And they ROCKED IT! Only a handful of pitchy moments that lasted a few seconds? Amazing!
Talent like that deserves respect.
Home Free is a group of five fellows:
Adam Rupp, their beat boxer and co founder, is SO good! Crazy good! (The kind of good like, champion-in-competition-good!)
He has inspired my son to make crazy sounds and noises with his mouth spewing saliva everywhere but I LOVE it!
Chris Rupp, co founder, producer, and baritone for the group is hilarious to watch and has a clear, clean voice.
Tim Foust, bass. He vibrated the whole place multiple times with his intense, long-held low notes and impressed with some strength in his high range too. He made us laugh as well.
Rob Lundquist, Tenor and whistler is one to watch. He has a sweet voice and hilarious facial expressions when he performs.
Austin Brown, lead singer, has a very smooth voice that impressed me with his runs and major high notes he hits flawlessly. He truly entertains when he is on stage.

The group Home Free has entertained my family long before we got to hear them live.
We discovered them through youtube.
(Funnily enough, I discovered the group Pentatonix via Home Free even though Pentatonix was well known first. (I had never seen the show the Sing-Off))
This leads me to another reason I go "crazy" for Home Free.
When they create their videos, I know they will be safe for my kids to see because they are clean. They even censored "All about that Bass" and I love that!
This group deserves to succeed and be "known".
This perfect mix of talented individuals has created a very high standard for which I will hold other bands to from now on.
You may wonder why I would get giddy over this group when there are many others who are amazing as well...
Did I mention they are the only country A Cappella group I've been able to find?! Country is my first love in music and always takes me back to good memories. It only makes sense that when a Country Vocal Band surfaces that I would become a huge fan! Especially when they are legitimately good. (The country twang and part yodel Austin adds to "All About the Bass" is killer!)
They are unique.
They are crazy good.
Check them out!
You'll be glad you did!
PS. Each member of the group are great users of social media. They are informative, funny and down to earth. Worth following them! (Check out #thinkin by Chris Rupp)
